1975- Began career in real estate business as a broker in Denver, CO with Metro Brokers and Re/Max
1975- Earned Colorado Real Estate Sales License
1978- Earned Colorado Real Estate Brokers License
1981- Completed coursework for Real Estate Securities and Syndication Institute (RESSI)
1985- Regional Portfolio Manager for a Denver based national Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT)
1986- Completed coursework and obtained Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation from National Association of Realtors
1987- Relocated to Phoenix, Az to open and head regional office for a national Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). Acquired new accounts, hired and supervised employees.
1990- Partner with Horizon Real Estate Group, a Phoenix, Az based real estate brokerage, management and development company. Headed the Property Management and Special Projects Divisions
1997- Returned to Denver & founded Michael Cheney Real Estate, a real estate brokerage, management and consulting firm

Real Estate Consulting

I can assist real estate owners in the discussion and implementation of strategy for the acquisition and disposition and repositioning of real estate as well as real estate Supervision of Physical Rehab, Capital and Operating Budgets, Strategy, Decision Making Support & much more.

Here are some recent examples:

September 2008- Consulted with family trust on the valuation and disposition of a major land parcel in Douglas County.
February 2009- Sale for an estate with a loan in foreclosure. Successfully coordinated with the lender, executor, the attorney for the estate and closed the transaction in 45 days.
March 2009- Short sale involving 2 lenders and a seller bankruptcy. This one required 8 months but it was successfully completed
March 2009- Listing and sale for 2 estates. Coordinated among siblings and closed the transaction in 40 days.
July 2009- Short sale involving approval from 2 lenders. Under contract and closed in 45 days
